Unitrode Accepts Resignation of Trapani as Chief Financial Officer
MERRIMACK, N.H.--Jan. 13, 1999--Unitrode Corporation today announced that Cosmo S. ("Cos") Trapani, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, will be leaving the Company to pursue entrepreneurial interests. In a move that has been planned for some time, Trapani's resignation is effective on January 31, 1999. A search has been underway for Mr. Trapani's replacement, and the Company expects to fill the position shortly.
Trapani joined Unitrode in 1990 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer as part of a new management team and was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1995. He was key in directing the strategic course of the Company, transforming it from a predominantly military components supplier to a manufacturer of analog/mixed signal integrated circuits.
Robert J. Richardson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Unitrode, praised Trapani's eight years of service with the Company citing the growth and strong financial performance during that time period. "Cos has been a superb contributor and advisor to the management and Directors of this Company over the years. His financial leadership was instrumental in creating one of the strongest balance sheets in our industry." Explaining the timing of Trapani's departure, Richardson said, "Cos had told me of his desire to pursue a new direction some time ago but wanted to support the transition of the new management into the Company and the integration of Benchmarq Microelectronics, both activities which are now complete."
Trapani said he is leaving the Company with mixed emotions. "I am proud to have been part of this strong Company. While I am looking forward to my future endeavors, I will miss the people of Unitrode who have worked so diligently in making this Company successful. Their dedication is the major reason why I plan to continue to be an investor in Unitrode."
Unitrode designs and manufactures analog/linear and mixed-signal integrated circuits, modules, and non-volatile products, principally to perform power management, portable power, and interface functions. Its products, branded under Unitrode and BENCHMARQ, are sold throughout the world for a variety of computer, tele- and data- communications, defense/aerospace, industrial, and automotive applications.
