Mobile-Area Toyota Car Sales Climb In December
    MIAMI, Jan. 12 -- Toyota's three Mobile-area dealers today
reported a 10-percent climb in December retail car sales over the year-ago
month.
    Mobile-area dealers include Airport Toyota, Springhill Toyota and Bob
Tyler Toyota in Pensacola.
    In the five-state region served by Southeast Toyota Distributors, Inc.,
December's retail car sales advanced 16 percent over the year-ago month,
establishing a new calendar-year sales record. The former calendar-year
record, set last year, was surpassed by seven percent.
    "In Southeast Toyota's 30 years of doing business, this is an all-time
record-breaking year, and an exciting milestone as we set the pace and head
toward a new millennium," said Southeast Toyota General Manager John Williams.
"In fact, we are at the very top in retail car sales, proving that as we
approach the year 2000, Toyota's competitive products and our dealers'
commitment to customer satisfaction are an unbeatable formula for success."
    Southeast Toyota's record-setting models for 1998 include Avalon, up 15
percent; Corolla, up seven percent and Camry, up five percent.
    Ranked first among Toyota's American distributors in sales and customer
