TRW Names New Management Team in Automotive Reorganization
CLEVELAND--Jan. 8, 1999--TRW Inc. today announced a new automotive product line structure and key executives."Since our July 1998 announcement, we've been working to reengineer TRW's automotive cost structure, improve our competitiveness, and provide the most talented leadership available," said Peter S. Hellman, president and chief operating officer of TRW and acting general manager of TRW Automotive.
In this restructuring, eight new global product lines now report directly to Hellman. "Our goal is to improve customer service, open up information flow, reduce costs, and increase operating results by 1.5 percentage points over the next two years," Hellman said.
James S. Remick, formerly in charge of TRW's occupant restraint systems business, reports to Hellman as executive vice president and deputy general manager of TRW Automotive. He will continue to serve as a member of the TRW management committee, an executive advisory group reporting to the chairman. Remick also will serve as acting vice president, lean manufacturing and quality, while an external search is conducted for that new position.
Bernd Blankenstein, previously in charge of the steering, suspension, and engine business, is TRW's senior automotive executive in Europe, serving as executive vice president as well as vice president and general manager of the engine components product line. He reports to Hellman and continues to serve as a member of the TRW management committee.
Ronald D. Sugar, formerly head of the automotive electronics business, leaves automotive to undertake a special assignment reporting directly to Joseph T. Gorman, chairman and chief executive officer.
The following worldwide product lines report to Hellman. Reflecting the importance of these businesses to the company as a whole, these vice presidents and general managers will join the company's expanded management committee.

TRW's Nelson Stud Welding organization, based in Elyria, Ohio, is headed by Fred Clarke, vice president and general manager. He reports to Gerd Kleinert.
A new automotive leadership council, comprised of product line and staff vice presidents, has been formed. Reporting to Hellman and based in Cleveland, the staff executives are:

Franziska H. Dacek is vice president, communications, reporting to Bellan.
Kishor Pendse also will coordinate activities with TRW's Center for Automotive Technology. Dave DiCarlo will continue to lead TRW's Center for Automotive Technology in Redondo Beach, California, and report to Pendse.
All appointments were effective January 1, 1999.
