Goodyear Debuts Silver Car Champion's Award at NASCAR Busch Series Banquet
AKRON, Ohio, Jan. 8 -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is
adding a sterling touch to its NASCAR racing involvement with a new silver
model car Champion's Award for the Busch Series, Grand National Division.
The solid sterling 1/18th scale model trophy on a 12-1/2" by 5-1/2"
ebonized wood base will be presented at the series' annual banquet today to
Dale Earnhardt Jr., by Stu Grant, general manager of worldwide racing for
Goodyear.
Designed and produced by Tiffany & Co., the replica model race car is
emblazoned with the champion's name, car number and individually applied
silver sponsor logos, as well as the Goodyear name on the wheel wells and on
the Eagle tires.
Tiffany & Co. artists worked eight months to produce the car, as well as a
similar sterling silver truck recently presented to NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series Champion Ron Hornaday.
Goodyear has been associated with NASCAR since the 1950s and its race
tires have been on the Winston Cup championship car for the past 30 years. A
similar trophy, a 1/12" scale gold model has been presented to the Cup series'
champion since the mid-l980s.
"NASCAR's Busch and Craftsman Truck series are growing in popularity, as
is the Winston Cup Series," said Grant. "Goodyear is proud to honor those
champions with a truly unique award that underscores our company's strong
racing heritage and our commitment to the sport as the exclusive tire supplier
to these three premier NASCAR racing series."
