Honolulu Fire Department, Hawaii, Adds 11 More Pierce Quantum Fire Trucks to Fleet
APPLETON, Wis.--Jan. 6, 1999--Pierce Manufacturing, the leading U.S. manufacturer of custom fire apparatus, announced that the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii, has placed an order valued at over $4.3 million. The order covers 11 Pierce(R) Quantum(R) fire apparatus, which will join six Quantum units that have been in the department's fleet since January 1998.The Pierce custom fire apparatus provide the advanced maneuverability and handling that the department was looking for. The department ordered seven pumpers and four 75-foot heavy-duty aerial "quints". All are built on Pierce's state-of-the-art Quantum custom chassis which feature a full 45-degree cramp angle, making these apparatus ideal for sharp corners, for handling the winding roads found on Oahu, and for compact cul-de-sacs in newer residential areas.
The eleven new apparatus are scheduled to be delivered in mid-summer 1999. All feature a Waterous pump rated at 1,500 gallons per minute and a 500-gallon water tank. Each is powered by a Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine that generates 470 horsepower.
