Industry Leaders Assemble to Discuss New Millennium During Automotive News World Congress, Co-sponsored by Automotive News and PricewaterhouseCoopers
    DETROIT, Jan. 6 -- The world's most successful and forward-
thinking automotive executives will gather here next week to trade
perspectives on the global industry as the 1999 Automotive News World Congress
gets under way Jan. 10-13 at the Marriot Renaissance Center.
    The theme for the Congress, co-sponsored by Automotive News and
PricewaterhouseCoopers, is "Opportunities for the New Millennium."  Speaking
are 44 top industry leaders.  Keynote addresses by Juergen Schrempp, Chairman,
DaimlerChrysler; and Robert Eaton, Chairman, DaimlerChrysler will open the
Congress Sunday evening.
    Ron Zarrella, President, General Motors North America will replace Louis
R. Hughes, Executive Vice President, New Business Strategies, General Motors
Corporation who was slated to speak with Minoru Nakamura, President, Nissan
North America, Inc. Monday evening.  The gala dinner on Tuesday will feature
presentations by Bruno Sacco, Senior Vice President, Design, DaimlerChrysler;
and Jacques Nasser, President and CEO, Ford Motor Company.
    Added to the roster of speakers are Stephen Yokich, President,
International Union, UAW; and Steve Girsky, Automotive Analyst, Morgan
Stanley.  They will join James Press, Senior Vice President & General Manager,
Automotive Operations Group, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.; and Don Walker,
President & CEO, Magna International Inc., on Tuesday morning.
    Three panel discussions Monday and Tuesday afternoon will focus on:
globalization; powertrains of the future; the retail revolution; global
product development, intelligent transportation systems; and marketing and
advertising.  These panels, in addition to featured speakers each morning,
promise to make this year's Automotive News World Congress both enlightening
and innovative.
