LucasVarity Reviews Strategic Alternatives

    LONDON, Jan. 6 -- LucasVarity plc announces that, as part of
its extensive strategic review disclosed at the time of the group's third
quarter results, preliminary discussions are taking place with a number of
companies in connection with a wide range of strategic alternatives, including
joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions, alliances and mergers or other
combinations.  There can be no certainty that any of these conversations will
results in a definitive agreement.
