CTS Corporation Joins the Bluetooth Consortium of Industry-Leading Companies

ELKHART, Ind.--Jan. 5, 1999--CTS Corporation has joined the Bluetooth consortium of industry-leading companies that are working together to deliver seamless connectivity between mobile devices. Bluetooth is an open specification for short-range radio connections between devices ranging from laptop PCs, mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other electronic products. The goal of the Bluetooth special interest group "SIG" is to provide a world where all electronic devices talk spontaneously -- where connectivity between computers, mobile phones and portable devices is as simple as flipping a switch.
Ericsson, Intel, IBM, Nokia and Toshiba founded the Bluetooth SIG in an effort to provide a global specification for wireless connectivity. First announced in May of 1998, Bluetooth has gained momentum with overwhelming support from telecommunication, consumer and PC industry leaders interested in developing products based on the Bluetooth specification. Since its founding, the Bluetooth SIG has grown significantly, recently adding 3COM, Compaq, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lucent, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, Philips, Samsung, Siemens and Texas Instruments and others as members.
CTS joined the Bluetooth consortium to support its market-focused product development strategy. Becoming a member of the Bluetooth Consortium follows the recent announcement of the definitive agreement signed between CTS and Motorola, Inc. Under which CTS will acquire Motorola's Component Products Division (CPD). CPD, which will be renamed CTS Wireless Components, manufactures ceramics, quartz, oscillator, lead zircronate titanate (PZT) and surface acoustic wave (SAW) components primarily for wireless communications equipment, as well as other applications. As a major participant in the fast-growing wireless communications equipment industry, CTS will be an active participant in bringing electronic components, based on the Bluetooth standard, to wireless communications original equipment manufacturers.
