Nissan December Sales Up 10.1 Percent; Truck Sales Contribute to a Strong Month with a 15.4 Percent IncreaseCARSON, Calif., Jan. 5 -- Showing momentum going into 1999, the Nissan division of Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA), reported total sales of 49,598 units for the month of December. That marks a 10.1 percent increase over the previous year and a 13.3 percent increase over the previous month. Leading the division based on percentage, was its truck line, consisting of the Pathfinder, Frontier and Quest. With sales of 20,161 units, the three vehicles combined led to a 15.4 percent increase over the previous year. The Pathfinder led the pack with 8,463 units sold in December, a 36.8 percent increase over the previous year. Total Pathfinder sales for the 1998 calendar year were 68,003 units. The Nissan Frontier posted sales of 7,748 units, a 0.2 percent increase over the previous year. Total calendar year sales for Frontier were 91,629 units. Quest sales continue to climb with sales of 3,950 units, an 11.2 percent increase over last year. Quest sales totaled 30,466 units for the calendar year. Nissan's cars also had a banner month in December with total combined sales of 29,437 units, a 6.7 percent increase over the previous year. The Nissan Altima continued to drive Nissan sales with 11,156 units sold in December. Total calendar year sales for Altima reached 144,451 units, a 1.3 percent increase over the previous calendar year. Maxima reported sales of 11,063 units, a 33.2 percent increase over the previous year. Calendar year sales for Maxima totaled 113,843 units. Other highlights include: Sentra posted sales of 6,056 units, an increase of 3.8 percent versus last year. Total calendar year sales for Sentra reached 88,363 units. The 200SX had sales of 1,070 units and the 240SX had sales of 91 units. Combined December sales for Nissan and Infiniti divisions totaled 56,617 units, an increase of 11.9 percent versus last year. Total calendar year sales for 1998 were 621,528 units. Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles accounted for 60.4 percent of December sales.
