Land Rover Reports 1998 Year-End Sales ResultsRecord Breaking Year for Land Rover's Range Rover LANHAM, Md., Jan. 5 -- Land Rover North America, Inc. announced today 1998 retail sales of 21,422, a decline of 10.1 percent from 1997 sales of 23,836. While Discovery sales were down, Range Rover continued its string of success with record sales of 7,070. Charles R. Hughes, President, Land Rover North America, said, "We expected to see a slight decline in 1998, as we lost Defender 90 and worked to run out the last of the 1998 Discoverys. Adjusting for the loss of Defender 90, sales were actually even with 1997. But, more importantly, Range Rover set a new sales record despite the massive competition in the luxury sport-utility segment. We expect strong 1999 sales as the all-new Discovery Series II is now hitting the showrooms in full force."
