Cooper Finalizes Dean Purchase

    FINDLAY, Ohio--Jan. 4, 1999--COOPER TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY today announced the completion of their purchase of the business of Dean Tire & Rubber Company, a Louisville, Kentucky-based tire distributor. The purchase price was not disclosed.
    Cooper acquired ownership of the Dean brand and will service the Dean distributors and dealers directly from the Findlay, Ohio office. John Fitzgerald, former Dean vice president of marketing, will head the new Dean division from an office in Louisville, Kentucky.     Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, founded in 1914, is the world's eighth largest tire manufacturer, specializing in the manufacturing and marketing of rubber products for consumers.
