Chevy, Jaguar and VW Bring in San Jose Debut Cars Under Heavy Security


    SAN JOSE, Calif.--Jan. 4, 1999--Representatives of Chevrolet, Jaguar and Volkswagen have confirmed plans to unveil North American debut model vehicles at The San Jose International Auto Show Charity Preview Night January 5.
    The fifth San Jose International Auto Show will run January 6-10 at the San Jose Convention Center.
    Confirming several weeks of speculation within the automotive industry, Jaguar Cars officials brought its new S-Type luxury sedan to the Convention Center loading docks early today under heavy security. The S-Type, the first Year 2000 model on the West Coast, is scheduled for 8 p.m. unveiling ceremonies on January 5.
    Earlier today, the Chevrolet Division of General Motors verified its plans to unveil the factory's new sport utility vehicle, The Tracker, during Preview Night festivities.
    Volkswagen, which stole the attention at last year's show with its unveiling of the New Beetle, informed show producers that it would debut the new Golf sedan to attendees of Preview Night.
    Hosted by the Silicon Valley Auto Dealers Association, the Charity Night Preview is a $50.00 per person gala benefiting seven local non-profit organizations. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
    The San Jose International Auto Show will be open from noon-10 p.m. January 6-8; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. January 9 and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. January 10. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $3.50 for children ages 6-12. Children under age 6 are admitted free. Discount coupons offering $2.00 off the adult general admission are available at all Nob Hill Foods stores beginning December 20.
