Texan to Receive SAE Medal of HonorWARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 28 -- Gregory W. Henderson, Manager, Design, Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems in Fort Worth, Texas, has been named as the 1999 recipient of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is given to recognize and honor a living SAE member who has made important and significant contributions to SAE by strengthening or adding to SAE's ability to further its purpose. SAE Past President David C. Holloway will present the award at the SAE Honors Convocation and Luncheon at the 1999 SAE Congress in Detroit, Michigan on March 2. A member of SAE since 1980, Henderson has played a pivotal role in many SAE initiatives. He was the first SAE Fellow to the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President of the United States. He has served on SAE's Board of Directors, Strategic Planning Committee and many other SAE committees and subcommittees. From 1983-84, he served as the chairman of the Texas Section of SAE. He also held several section offices and coordinated the introduction of SAE's "A World in Motion" math and science program in the Fort Worth Independent School District. Henderson has pioneered many developments at SAE, including the Mobility Technology Planning Forum (MTPF), which launched SAE's efforts in developing its first formal society-wide technology plan. This plan was instrumental in helping to bring total life cycle, manufacturing, integrated product development and environmental issues to the forefront as major SAE strategic issues. Henderson came to Lockheed Martin in 1980 after graduation from Oklahoma State University with a master's in mechanical engineering. Prior to obtaining his master's degree, he worked for Farrel Corporation, a manufacturer of heavy equipment for the rubber and plastics industry, in Ansonia, Connecticut.
