New Jeep Grand Cherokee is 'Roughin' it in Style' At The February SAE Dinner MeetingDETROIT, Dec. 23 -- The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Detroit Section delivers the inside story on the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The dinner meeting presentation will consist of the vehicle overview by Daniel Knott, Jeep Vehicle Development; Michael Kirk, Jeep Powertrain Engineering; and Howard Padgham, Powertrain Advance Manufacturing Engineering detailing the product, process and plant initiatives utilized in the development of the 1999 Grand Cherokee. The Jeep team faced a remarkable challenge with the Grand Cherokee -- enhance the luxury and quality of the vehicle while maintaining its "Jeep-ness." The result: "The most capable sport-utility ever," says Automotive Marketing Consultants, Inc. This vehicle, with its 4.7 SOHC V-8 PowerTech engine and electronically controlled transmission, is "all new" and still "all Jeep." Grand Cherokee's off-road capability has been further enhanced with a new three-link rear suspension and improved front suspension, providing a car-like feel. The new Grand Cherokee's interior has also been redesigned to include many luxury features, making it comparable to the upscale sedans that often share its garage space. This vehicle is the perfect combination of rugged power and optimum luxury.
