Standard Motor Products Announces Acquisition

Standard Motor Products Announces the Acquisition of Webcon and Injection Correction
    NEW YORK, Dec. 15 --  Standard Motor Products, Inc.
, automotive replacement parts manufacturer and distributor
announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire, through
its European subsidiary Standard Motor Products Holdings Ltd., 85% of the
stock of Webcon UK Ltd. and, through its UK joint venture Blue Streak Europe
Ltd., Webcon's affiliate Injection Correction UK Ltd.  Closing on the
acquisitions is expected by December 31, 1998.  The acquisitions will be
funded out of Standard's operating cash flow.
    Webcon UK Ltd., located in Sunbury-on-Thames England was formed in 1975.
It is the premier UK assembler and distributor of automotive fuel system
components and other engine management and motor sport performance products.
Injection Correction is a leading remanufacturer of engine computers and has
developed a line of engine diagnostic equipment.  Annual sales of these
companies are about $15 million.
    Mr. Mike Walton and Mr. Paul Bridge will continue as senior managers of
each company and will remain as minority shareholders.
    Mr. Larry Sills, President of Standard Motor Products, Inc. said, "We are

strategy begun with acquiring Intermotor and establishing Four Seasons Europe.
We expect these acquisitions to be accretive to Standard's earnings in 1999

favorable acquisitions to expand our European market presence and create
positive EVA for our shareholders."
