Dana Acquires Delphi's U.K. Filtration Manufacturing Operation

Dana Corporation Acquires Delphi's Southampton, U.K., Filtration Manufacturing Operation

    TOLEDO, Ohio, Dec. 15 -- In a strategic move to strengthen
its presence in the European marketplace, Dana Corporation today
announced that it has acquired the filtration manufacturing operation of
Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems U.K. Overseas Corp., located in
Southampton, U.K.  Terms of the agreement were not announced.
    The Southampton operation had 1997 sales of approximately $50 million
primarily from oil, air, fuel, and panel filtration products.  The operation
employs approximately 450 people.
    According to Bill Lasky, president of Dana's Filtration Products Group,
the acquisition offers Dana a European foothold with solid growth potential in
a core business.  "This acquisition will strengthen our European presence --
with both original equipment and aftermarket customers," Lasky said.
    "Along with our Quinton Hazell aftermarket filter operations in the U.K.,
and our Wix Filtron filtration products operations located in Poland, this
acquisition provides Dana with an excellent European base from which to grow
this core business," Lasky said.
    Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems is a division of Delphi
Automotive Systems, with lead responsibility for the generation, conversion,
and storage of electrical energy, the flow of air and fuel into an engine, the
combustion process, and the cleaning of exhaust emissions.  Headquartered in
Flint, Mich., the division employs more than 29,000 men and women in 28 wholly
owned manufacturing plants, nine joint ventures, 10 engineering centers, and
19 sales offices in 21 countries.
