Penske Motorsports Announces Executive AppointmentsFONTANA, Calif., Dec. 11 -- Penske Motorsports, Inc. (PMI) has announced the following executive appointments: Scott Atherton, president and general manager for California Speedway; William G. Miller, president and general manager for Nazareth Speedway and Craig Rust, director of marketing and corporate hospitality for California Speedway, according to Greg Penske, president, Penske Motorsports. The appointments are effective immediately. Les Richter, executive vice president for PMI, will leave his day-to-day duties at California Speedway and will work with all PMI tracks on operational issues. Richter has served as the executive vice president for PMI and California Speedway since June of 1996. He left NASCAR in June of 1994 to oversee the building of the California Speedway. His years of motorsports experience played an important role in the development of the speedway and he was key to its successful opening in June of 1997. "These executive appointments demonstrate the strength of our organization and the depth of our management team at all of our speedways," said Penske. "Their experience in motorsports will be important to the success of PMI as we continue to grow our company." Atherton joined PMI in 1997 when he was named executive vice president and general manager for Nazareth Speedway located in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Prior to joining PMI, he served as general manager from 1993-97 at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California where he successfully promoted CART, AMA, SCCA, IMSA and FIA sports car and motorcycle races. Previous to working at Laguna Seca, Atherton was vice president of marketing and promotions for Domino's Pizza. He spent a total of nine years with Domino's, beginning his sports marketing career as a director of sports marketing in 1984. Miller has been with PMI for eight years, the last three years as director of marketing and corporate hospitality for California Speedway. The Ohio native began his motorsports career as a marketing representative for Michigan Speedway in the summer of 1991, a position he held until being named director of marketing in January of 1994. Rust joined California Speedway in 1996 as a marketing manager. As director, he will be in charge of corporate sales, marketing, sponsor relations, developing new sponsorships and corporate hospitality. His previous experience includes sponsorship manager at International Sports and Event Marketing, Ltd. (ISM) in Newport Beach, California and as an Account Executive with World Sports & Entertainment in New York City. He began his sports marketing career as manager, event sponsorships for Madison Square Garden (MSG) and sales coordinator for MSG Network which was responsible for the sponsorship sales for MSG Network, New York Knicks, New York Rangers and the New York Yankees.
