Michigan Chamber of Commerce's Complaint Against UAW
14 December 1998
UAW Secretary-Treasurer Ruben Burks Comments On the Michigan Chamber of Commerce's Complaint Against UAW Michigan V-PACDETROIT, Dec. 11 -- UAW Secretary-Treasurer Ruben Burks, Chair of the UAW Michigan Community Action Program (CAP), issued this statement regarding the Michigan Chamber of Commerce's complaint alleging that the UAW Michigan Voluntary Political Action Committee (Michigan V-PAC) violated the Michigan Campaign Finance Act. "The Michigan Chamber of Commerce's complaint against UAW Michigan V-PAC has no merit whatsoever. "Both UAW Michigan V-PAC and UAW V-CAP, the UAW's federal political action committee, have complied fully with both the letter and the spirit of state and federal election laws as well as with generally accepted accounting principles. "The Michigan Chamber either doesn't understand our state's campaign finance law, or it is willfully misrepresenting the law. Either way, this groundless complaint is simply the latest cynical tactic in the Michigan Chamber's ongoing attack on the right of working men and women to participate in the political process."
