Ernst & Young Adds WWJ-Radio as a Sponsor of the Automotive News Pace Awards
DETROIT, Dec. 10 -- Ernst & Young LLP today announced that
WWJ News Radio 950 has become the exclusive broadcast sponsor of the
Automotive News PACE(TM) Awards. The annual PACE (Premier Automotive
Suppliers' Contributions to Excellence) Awards, co-founded by Automotive News
and Ernst & Young, recognize auto suppliers for demonstrated leadership in
innovation, technological advancements and business performance.
Sponsoring the Pace Awards strengthens WWJ's service to the large audience
segment that follows the progress of the automotive industry and the companies
leading this growth. WWJ, as part of its sponsorship, will profile finalists
and winners through select broadcast programming and its World Wide Web site.
WWJ also will provide updates on the annual program, now in its fifth
year. In November, Ernst & Young and Automotive News announced the finalists
for the 1999 awards, to be presented in March. An independent panel of PACE
judges is now selecting winners for breakthrough achievements in a wide range
of operational activities:

    * Process capabilities, such as order management, supplier management, or
      manufacturing
    * Product characteristics, such as engineering or environmental compliance
    * Business areas, such as sales, HR, finance, or office management
    * Company values and relationships with employees, customers and
      shareholders, and
    * Management skills applied to turning around or repositioning a declining
      company.

The 1999 PACE Awards finalists are ASHA Corporation; Benteler Automotive
Corporation; CEC Consultants, Inc.; Collins & Aikman Products Company; Dana
Corporation, Modules & Systems Group; Delphi Automotive Systems; Engelhard
Corporation; The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; Johnson Controls, Inc.; LMI
SAMI; Meritor Automotive, Inc.; Motorola, Inc.; NRI Industries, Inc.; Petoskey
Plastics, Inc.; Stackpole Ltd., Teleflex, Inc.; Textron Automotive Company,
Inc.; and Transmission Technologies Corporation.
Six winners, chosen from among 14 finalists, were honored at the 1998 PACE
Awards ceremony: Gentex Corporation, Benteler Automotive, Prince, a Johnson
Controls Company, Durr Industries, Wagner Lighting Division/Cooper Automotive,
and Eaton Corporation. This year, the PACE judges will again honor semi-
finalists. Introduced in 1998, this category gives more companies an
opportunity to gain recognition and take home PACE honors. Seven semi-
finalists were recognized in 1998.
