Toyota Breaks Sales Record for Third Consecutive Year
TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 10 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc. today announced it has broken its U.S. calendar-year sales record
for the third-consecutive year, nearly a month before the year-end close.
Combined Toyota and Lexus sales surpassed the previous sales record of
1,230,122 units, set last year.
"We achieved this record by providing excellent products in a market
driven by favorable economic conditions," said Yale Gieszl, TMS executive vice
president. "This latest sales record is a tribute to the outstanding
commitment from our manufacturing team members and dealers to strive for
constant improvement in every facet of the business."
Gieszl also noted that Toyota and Lexus dealers maintained a strong
commitment to future growth during 1998 by making significant investments to
upgrade their dealerships.
