Intermet Board Elects New DirectorTROY, Mich., Dec. 9 -- Byron O. Pond, Jr., chairman of Indiana-based Arvin Industries, Inc., was elected to the Board of Directors of Intermet Corporation . "Byron brings a wealth of experience in the automotive parts industry to our board," said John Doddridge, chairman and chief executive officer of Intermet. "His leadership abilities and very extensive background will be a tremendous benefit to us." Mr. Pond currently serves as chairman of the board of Arvin Industries. Pond came to Arvin Industries in 1986 from Maremont Corporation, an automotive components supplier in Chicago, when Maremont was acquired by Arvin Industries. He had served as Maremont's chairman, president and chief executive officer prior to the acquisition. In 1991 he was elected Arvin's president and chief operations officer, serving in that position until 1993 when he was elected president and chief executive officer, a position he held until May of this year. Pond serves on the Board of Directors of Cooper Tire and Rubber Company in Findlay, Ohio and is current chairman of Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), a leading worldwide trade association for automotive original equipment and replacement component manufacturers. He is a Michigan native and holds a business degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. With headquarters in Troy, Michigan, Intermet Corporation and its subsidiaries design and manufacture precision iron and aluminum cast components for automotive and industrial equipment manufacturers worldwide.
