Newswires Inaccurately Report Nissan U.S. Restructuring Plans to Slash JobsCARSON, Calif., Dec. 8 -- Nissan North America, Inc. released the following statement in response to an Associated Press Tokyo story and a Bloomberg News Tokyo story about proposed job reductions in its U.S. operations: "These newswire reports are wrong. In May, Nissan announced as part of its Global Restructuring plan that it would merge Nissan North America, Inc. and Nissan Motor Corporation, USA. This merger will create a stronger U.S. operation that will allow the company to be more competitive in the U.S. marketplace, and will streamline our decision making process. While we expect to see a reduction in our work force through natural attrition by the year 2000, there are no planned staff reductions as a result of this consolidation. This is all part of Nissan's back to basics strategy, making the company more responsive to consumer needs." Visit the Nissan Online News Bureau at http://www.nissannews.com
