LucasVarity Wins Chrysler Role Model AwardLONDON, Dec. 8 -- LucasVarity plc (London: LVA; NYSE: LVA) announced today that its Automotive Division is one of nine recipients of Chrysler Role Model awards for the 1998 model year. Around 11,000 top parent suppliers are eligible for these prestigious awards. LucasVarity Automotive was recognised in conjunction with two other DaimlerChrysler suppliers in the Extended Enterprise(TM) category for reducing variations in brake products. Through a focused partnership effort with its plants and Tier 2 suppliers, LucasVarity achieved a 30 percent improvement in part to part consistency involving a variety of brake components. This improvement contributed to a further reduction of brake system warranty claims at DaimlerChrysler. The award for the 1998 model year was the first time that LucasVarity has been recognised as a Role Model recipient. In a letter to LucasVarity Automotive President John Plant, DaimlerChrysler Corporation's Executive Vice President, Procurement & Supply Tom Sidlik said, "Your employees should be very proud of this tremendous accomplishment.
