TRW Appoints Darryl M. Fraser to Senior Communications Post

    FAIRFAX, Va.--Dec. 8, 1998--Darryl M. Fraser has been appointed director, Communications for TRW's Systems & Information Technology Group based in Fairfax, Va.
    In this newly formed position, Fraser will lead an integrated communications function that will encompass strategic, marketing, and internal communications with media and community relations. Fraser will report directly to Philip A. Odeen, the Group's executive vice president and general manager, and work closely with the vice presidents of business development and human resources.
    "As our Group continues to grow, it needs an effective strategic communicator to relay its business goals and accomplishments to our customers and the public," said Odeen. "Darryl's extensive experience in strategic planning, business development, and government relations will significantly help strengthen our existing communications function." Added Odeen, "Darryl is uniquely suited for this position with a strong technical background that complements his communications expertise."
    Fraser has been with TRW for approximately 19 years, most recently as a director of Government Relations for TRW's Washington Office located in Arlington, Va. In this role, Fraser served as TRW's principal lobbyist on authorization issues for defense and national security programs. His experience also included assignments involving TRW's civil and private sector businesses.
    Before coming to the Washington area, Fraser held a variety of senior management positions within the company. In 1990, he was director of Communications for TRW's Space and Technology Group in Redondo Beach, Calif. In this role, he managed the public relations, advertising and special events functions, and directed all external activities associated with three successful launches of TRW spacecraft from Cape Canaveral. In 1986, Fraser directed this Group's strategic planning department and became the architect for several initiatives in spacecraft technology and new space programs.
    From 1984 to 1986, he was selected to participate in the TRW Inc. Management Associates Program, a prestigious management development program that exposes select employees with high potential to different parts of TRW's business early in their careers. During this time, he worked on strategic planning, marketing, technology planning, manufacturing, and business development for TRW's commercial and defense businesses units. Prior to this, Fraser was a member of the engineering staff in Redondo Beach, Calif. for several years where he worked on various spacecraft propulsion systems and chemical laser programs.
    A native of Staten Island, New York, Fraser graduated from M.I.T. with with a BS in Chemical Engineering and earned an MBA from UCLA. In 1995, Fraser served as a Brookings Congressional Fellow in the Office of Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT). Here, he focused on federal budget issues and worked closely with the House Budget Committee. He also completed a Department of Defense National Security Management course through the Syracuse University Maxwell School. He is currently vice-chair of the M.I.T. Educational Council and a board member of Fairfax Opportunities Unlimited. Fraser currently resides in Chevy Chase, Md., with his wife, Leslye, and their two children, Brittney and Michael.
