Landec Corporation Introduces New Formulated Product: Says It Expects To Receive Initial Orders From European Automotive Industry in Early 1999
MENLO PARK, Calif., Dec. 4 -- Landec Corporation
, a specialty polymer company, today introduced Aeromark(TM) 80,
a new formulated product used in product prototyping and part design.
Based on the company's proprietary Intelimer(R) technology, Aeromark 80 is
being targeted initially to the transportation industry, including automobile
and aerospace manufacturers. The company said it has been testing the product
with several major European automobile manufacturers and expects to begin
shipping orders and recording initial revenues from Aeromark 80 within the
next 90 days. The product was unveiled this week at EuroMold '98 , a major
trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany for the moldmaking, tooling and product
design industries.
"This one component product can be used to create a three dimensional
model for an entire product, such as an automobile, or a specific automobile
or airplane part. It is designed for use in CAD-CAM and CNC-based model and
prototype fabrication. Aeromark 80 comes in a liquid paste form that is
pumped over a shaped frame and then cured. This product will be used to
provide a three dimensional, lightweight model that is machineable and
dimensionally stable," said Guy Stokes, vice president of commercial
development for Landec.
"With our European distributor, Aero Consultants Ltd. A.G., we began
testing this product with several leading European automobile manufacturers
earlier this year and the results have been very positive," Stokes said. "We
have established manufacturing capabilities in Europe and expect to begin
shipping initial orders there in the early part of 1999.
"Aeromark 80 is a stable one component material which requires no mixing,
and can be easily and inexpensively applied. In addition, Aeromark 80
requires lower capital equipment costs, cures quickly and creates less waste
than existing methods," Stokes continued.
"The introduction of Aeromark 80 marks Landec's entry into the prototype,
design and fabrication markets and is the first of what he hope to be a line
of High Performance Materials products based on our Intelimer polymer
technology. "This new product extends our existing line of Intelimer Polymer
Catalyst products, which are used by customers to catalyze thermoset systems
used in coatings, sealants, adhesives, pre-pregs and other fiber reinforced
composites," noted Gary T. Steele, chairman and chief executive officer of
Landec.
Landec Corporation designs, develops, manufactures and sells
temperature-activated and other specialty polymer products for a variety of
food packaging, industrial high performance materials, agricultural seed and
distribution and medical applications. The company's temperature-activated
polymer products are based on its proprietary Intelimer polymers, which differ
from other polymers in that they can be customized to abruptly change their
physical characteristics when heated or cooled through a pre-set temperature
switch.
