Goodyear Board Elevates Two Vice Presidents
AKRON, Ohio, Dec. 2 -- Demonstrating Goodyear's commitment to
global growth and diversity, the company's Board of Directors has voted to
elevate two vice presidents to elected officers.
Elected corporate vice presidents were Hugh D. Pace, vice president of
Goodyear's Asia region; and Donald D. Harper, vice president of human
resources planning, development & change.
"Hugh Pace has a wealth of experience managing Goodyear operations
throughout Latin America. His election strengthens both our leadership team
and our resolve to prosper in Asia despite the weak economic conditions in
that part of the world," said Goodyear Chairman Samir G. Gibara.
"Don Harper has been a driving force in the advancement of our human
resources systems and practices," Gibara said. "His election will help us as
we build an even-more diverse workforce for the 21st century."
Pace, 46, joined Goodyear in 1975 as a trainee and has held various sales
and marketing positions in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Valencia, Venezuela; and Lima,
Peru. He was named director of sales and marketing for Goodyear's Latin
America Region in 1987. Pace became president and managing director of
Goodyear Argentina in 1989, and president and general manager of Goodyear
Mexico in 1992. His assignment as vice president of the Asia region was
announced on Nov. 11.
Harper, 52, began his career with Goodyear in 1968 as a supervisor in the
North Chicago, Ill., hose plant. He held successive human resources positions
at tire plants in Gadsden, Ala., and Fayetteville, N.C., and the company's
chemical plant in Beaumont, Texas. After moving to Akron in 1983, Harper
served in various corporate human resources management positions before being
named director of employee relations for the Asia region in 1991 and director
of human resources for Goodyear's North American Tire group in 1993. He was
named vice president of human resources planning, development & change in
1996.
