Chicago Auto Show to Remain in ChicagoCHICAGO, Dec. 2, Dec. 2 -- Ending speculation by various trade show pundits and insiders, the board of directors of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association has voted to keep the mammoth annual Chicago Auto Show in Chicago at least through the year 2008. The nation's largest auto show has been held in Chicago since 1901 and the 1999 edition, Feb. 12-21, will be its 91st iteration. The vote of confidence came just hours after the Radiological Society of North America reversed its previous decision to move their trade show to Orlando, opting to stay in Chicago until 2004. "We're pleased to put our stamp of approval on keeping the Chicago Auto Show in Chicago," said 1999 show chairman Mike Cook. "Some had speculated over the past few years that we might have the Chicago Auto Show in Miami or Palm Springs, since the weather was so much nicer there in February. But we felt it would be tough for more than a million people who visit our show every year to have to fly to Florida or California to see it. I think it was a brilliant stroke of strategy on our part." Chicagoans wishing to get more information about the annual February event can call the Chicago Automobile Trade Association at 630-495-2282 or visit the show's web site, chicago-autoshow.com. Tickets for the show's Feb. 11 black-tie First Look for Charity preview are available through each of the 12 participating charities or may be ordered by phone at 630-424-1636.
