Mitsubishi Motors' November Sales Total 10,974

2 December 1998

Mitsubishi Motors' November Sales Total 10,974; All-New 1999 Galant Mid-Size Sedan Increases 41 Percent
CYPRESS, Calif., Dec. 1 -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America,
Inc. (MMSA) sold 3,323 of its all-new Galant mid-size sedans in November, up
41 percent compared to last year. Supported by one of the company's largest
advertising launches ever, Galant is being accepted by buyers as a stylish
alternative to Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
In addition, sales of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport mid-size SUV remained
strong at 2,517 units, and the 3000GT -- one of the last Japanese grand
touring sports cars available in the United States -- was up 24 percent.
The automaker sold 10,974 vehicles in November, a 12 percent decrease over
prior year. Year-to-date sales for the automaker are 175,325 units, down
one-half of a percent over 1997.
"While our sales are down overall in a highly competitive, end-of-the-year
selling season, we expect a strong December close, ending 1998 with a sales
increase," said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief operating
officer. "We remain committed to re-building the brand image and
profitability of our company and our retailers through the launch of our
all-new Galant and by offering new car buyers style, performance and value --
and perhaps most importantly, a distinctive alternative to vehicles that
everyone else drives."
Sales of Mitsubishi Motors' U.S.-assembled vehicles -- which include the
Galant, Eclipse sports coupe and Eclipse Spyder convertible -- were up
5 percent in November. In addition to the successful launch of the Galant,
Gagnon noted that the ongoing popularity of Eclipse is testament to Mitsubishi
Motors' fun-to-drive image and "wake up and drive(TM)" advertising campaign.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. was established in 1982 by
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of vehicles,
including coupes, convertibles, sedans and sport utility vehicles.
