DaimlerChrysler Corporation Sets November Sales Record
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 1 -- DaimlerChrysler Corporation
-- including Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth and Jeep(R) brands -- sold
a record 192,012 vehicles in November, a seven percent increase over the
previous November's sales and the Corporation's fifth monthly sales record in
the last seven months.
The Dodge brand was a major contributor to the surge, with Dodge Division
as a whole posting record sales of 111,659, as well as individual model
records set by Dodge Ram, Dodge Durango and Dodge Dakota. Chrysler brand
vehicles also had a strong showing for the month, posting 23,466 units in
total, with the Chrysler Concorde, the award-winning Chrysler 300M and the
Chrysler LHS all posting sales significantly above last year's totals for the
same period.
"Our Dodge and Chrysler brands are red hot," said James P. Holden,
DaimlerChrysler Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "And as more
of our 1999 Jeep brand vehicles -- particularly the new Grand Cherokee -- are
made available to our customers, we can expect to enter the new year in a very
solid position."
Eleven sales records were set in November, including truck sales of
141,834, a seven percent increase versus last year and Dodge truck sales of
87,710, up 18 percent over the previous year. Additionally, sport utility
vehicle sales were 55,025, a 13 percent jump over last November's SUV sales of
48,636. Dodge Ram Pickup sales of 35,569 represented a nine percent increase
over last November's volume of 32,582 and the seventh consecutive month in
which the Dodge Ram Pickup has set a sales record. Dodge Durango's sales were
15,994, a 145 percent jump over last year's total of 6,522, while Dodge Dakota
sold 11,444 units in total, the eighth consecutive month in which the Dakota
has set a sales record.
Passenger car sales for November totaled 50,178 - a six percent increase
over last November.
