EDS Selects Computer Associates Unicenter TNG for Drivers and Vehicle License Agency Contract in U.K.
SLOUGH, U.K.--Dec. 1, 1998--Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that EDS has selected Unicenter TNG as the preferred enterprise management solution for the Department of Transport's Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in the United Kingdom. Unicenter TNG was chosen as part of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract between EDS and the Department of Transport. After evaluating various point solution products for this key project, EDS chose Unicenter TNG due to its ability to provide out-of-the-box, end-to-end integration, automation and management.
"This Unicenter TNG implementation is an important project at the DVLA, and will be responsible for the smooth running of a help desk and desktop infrastructure," commented Mr. Les Philpin, EDS Infrastructure Manager. "With Unicenter TNG, we believe many of these mission-critical processes can be automated, simplified and integrated, removing many of the drawbacks associated with point solutions."
The contract is stage one in a tiered project, which also includes input from CA's Global Professional Services on the project design. The initial stages will see Unicenter TNG used across a sizeable Novell environment consisting of various desktops and a range of NetWare and UNIX servers.
"I am delighted that we have further extended our relationship with EDS, particularly given the scope of this important project," commented Sean Larner, CA senior vice president and general manager for Europe. "This is further proof of the ability of Unicenter TNG to manage mission-critical infrastructures -- end-to-end."
By automatically managing the enterprise computing environment, Unicenter TNG optimizes the availability of business-critical services to help reduce the total cost of ownership. Enterprise assets including the Internet/intranet and even non-IT equipment, like automated teller machines, can be managed based on the business processes they support. Comprehensive and integrated out-of-the-box functionality and an intuitive Real World Interface make Unicenter TNG easy to deploy and use, resulting in a rapid return on investment that increases over time.
CA and EDS already work together on projects for customers in the United Kingdom, including the Metropolitan Police, British Army and Xerox Corporation.
