Gary A. Cappeline Named President Of AlliedSignal Specialty Chemicals

    MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J.--Nov. 30, 1998--AlliedSignal Inc. announced today that Gary Cappeline has been named President of AlliedSignal Specialty Chemicals.
    He will become a member of the AlliedSignal Corporate Executive Council and, pending Board of Directors approval, an officer of the company. He will report to Lawrence A. Bossidy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
    Cappeline was group vice president, pigments and additives, at Engelhard Corp. He succeeds Paul Norris, who resigned to become president and chief executive officer of W.R. Grace & Co.
    "We look forward to Gary's leadership and market knowledge to help us grow and expand our Specialty Chemicals business," said Bossidy. "The businesses Gary has led during his career have grown substantially, and I'm confident that he will lead our specialty chemicals business to record performance."
    Before joining Engelhard in 1997, Cappeline was with Ashland Chemical Company from 1974 to 1996. From 1988 to 1992, he was vice president, general manager of the Drew Industrial Division, one of six divisions of Ashland Chemical's Specialty Chemicals business. Revenues of the business doubled during that time. From 1993 to 1996, he was group vice president, specialty chemicals. Under his leadership, sales increased more than 70% and profits increased over 100%.
    Cappeline is a graduate of City College of New York, where he received a B.S. and an M.S. in chemical engineering.
