Defiance, Inc. Announces U.A.W. Contract RatificationCLEVELAND, Nov. 23 -- Defiance, Inc. today announced that its Defiance Precision Products, Inc. subsidiary and United Auto Workers Local 638 reached agreement on a new three-year contract which will expire in November 2001. The members of Local 638 ratified the new contract in a vote Saturday morning. The new agreement covers approximately 240 employees at two production facilities located in Defiance, Ohio. Benjamin A. Scherschel, president and chief operating officer of the Defiance Precision Products subsidiary, said, "Both the union and the company have demonstrated their commitment to working in partnership toward our shared goals. This agreement is a clear sign of the cooperative spirit that exists between Precision Products and the UAW. It will allow the company to continue growing our business and improving our competitive position." Scherschel called the contract a "win-win" agreement, and praised the work of the negotiating teams for both parties. Defiance, headquartered in Cleveland, is a manufacturer of specialty anti- friction bearings and metal prototype dies and parts, and provides testing and tooling development services to the U.S. motor vehicle industry.
