Volkswagen Selects DOCUMENTUM as Enterprise Document Management Standard
Projects at Volkswagen AG, Volkswagen Financial Services and Audi
                               Already Underway

PLEASANTON, Calif., Nov. 23 -- DOCUMENTUM (R), Inc.
, the recognized leader in enterprise document and knowledge
management solutions for client/server and Web environments, today announced
that it signed a license agreement with Volkswagen in the third quarter of
1998. The top selling European car importer in the U.S. selected the
DOCUMENTUM Enterprise Document Management System 98 (EDMS 98) as its worldwide
corporate standard for all document, Web content and knowledge management
applications. The first in a series of projects are currently underway at
Volkswagen Financial Services AG, the legal and human resources department of
Volkswagen AG and the research and development department of Audi AG.

Functionality, Scalability and Integration With SAP R/3 Drove Purchase
    Decision
Volkswagen adopted EDMS 98 as its corporate standard to effectively manage
the vital corporate knowledge contained in documents and to enable knowledge
sharing across the enterprise. Volkswagen regards EDMS 98 as a strategic
infrastructure layer to improve productivity and profitability. The company
is employing EDMS 98's rich functionality to implement highly automated,
efficient document-centric business processes and to link unstructured
documents with structured, transaction-based data managed by SAP R/3. Due to
Volkswagen's global reach, scalability and first-class intranet capabilities
were crucial factors in their software selection.
"We have standardized on DOCUMENTUM because of its rich functionality and
scalability. EDMS 98 is ideally suited to be the common base for automating
all document-centric business processes," said Karl-Heinz Hornbostel, Manager
Informatikzentrum at Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany. "Document and
knowledge management are among the key technologies enabling shorter
development cycles, higher quality, profitability and growth in the
increasingly competitive global automotive market."
"We are pleased to announce our selection as the corporate standard at one
of the world's leading automotive companies and all of their subsidiaries,"
said Jeffrey A. Miller, president and chief executive officer of DOCUMENTUM.
"Volkswagen is a great example of how our technology contributes to enterprise
solutions that meet global customer needs and further demonstrates our ongoing
success in the automotive industry."
