Johnson Controls Invests in Japanese Buildings Maintenance FirmMILWAUKEE and TOKYO, Nov. 19 -- Johnson Controls, Inc. , which three months ago established a new subsidiary to establish its integrated facility management (IFM) business in Japan, today announced that it has made an equity investment in a leading Japanese buildings maintenance firm, Tokyo Biso Kogyo. Tokyo Biso Kogyo (TBK) is Japan's largest independently owned building maintenance company with over 40 years of experience providing technical maintenance and custodial services to a wide array of building owners. It is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Johnson Controls is the world's largest supplier of integrated facility management and workplace consulting, with over 1.2 billion square feet of facilities under management. It offers its clients a single source for coordinating contractors and vendors, facility budgeting, total energy management, space, occupancy and move management, and benchmarking for total workplace and building performance. Robert Netolicka, President, Integrated Facility Management, Johnson Controls, stated that the new partnership between Johnson Controls and TBK is expected to accelerate Johnson Controls growth in Japan by combining the strengths of each company. TBK has a strong established customer base and knowledge of the Japanese market while Johnson Controls brings a new approach toward facility management to the Japanese commercial buildings market. According to Mr. Netolicka, "We will offer TBK's customers the full scope of facility management outsourcing services that has been proven to reduce costs and improve the return on investment from facilities in North America, Europe and many parts of the Asia Pacific region." As the world's second biggest economy, densely populated with large sophisticated buildings, Japan represents a major market opportunity for Johnson Controls. The company said that it has found a high level of interest by both Japanese and global corporations since it announced the formation of its integrated facility management business there this summer. Johnson Controls Integrated Facility Management provides on-site management and develops customized solutions that integrate all the functions necessary to support the daily operations of a customer's facility -- whatever unique level of support the customer needs. The company's proprietary technologies include Prophet, a database containing performance information on 400 million square feet of facilities which identifies best practices and factually assesses workplace performance. Johnson Controls offers Integrated Facility Management to customers in 35 countries and has earned numerous quality and customer service awards and ISO certifications.
