costs and increase backhauls through real-time fleet
management
Eaton Corporation's Trucking Information Services Division (TISD), a leader in transportation logistics management systems, announced today that Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc. - a worldwide supplier of electrical equipment - has signed a contract to equip its entire transportation fleet with the Eaton Fleet Advisor Transportation Logistics Management System.
"We purchased the Fleet Advisor system to align logistics with our corporate objective to improve finished goods distribution and thus reduce the need for large inventories," notes Henry Franzone, Corporate Director of Logistics for Leviton. "Fleet Advisor will enable us to better control the movement of our products to our customers and distribution centers by giving our dispatchers and plant managers the ability to constantly track our vehicles and communicate with our drivers on a real-time basis. Our proactive, real-time fleet management will also enable us to more effectively manage our backhaul opportunities. We can stop running empty on return trips and start earning additional revenue as a for-hire carrier in our approved lanes of travel."
Franzone continues: "Fleet Advisor will route critical fleet information - either in detail or summarized form - throughout our organization so that our associates can make proactive, on-the-spot, informed decisions that will significantly improve our productivity and enhance our customer service. We will use the information provided by Fleet Advisor to help us automate payroll processes and other administrative tasks."
Trucking fleets are using Fleet Advisor to electronically manage transportation logistics. The Fleet Advisor system eliminates time-consuming paperwork by offering paperless DOT logs, paperless IFTA compliance and paperless information flow between the drivers, dispatchers and managers. It allows fleets to perform the following activities in real time: route trucks; manage backhauls; manage emergencies and breakdowns; and improve customer service. Fleets can dispatch their trucks from anywhere at anytime.
Fleet Advisor's package of innovative solutions includes full-function on-board computing, integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) and real-time mobile communications, Windows NT-based back office networking capabilities, tachograph, trip recording and other functionality.
