Tenneco Board Names Paul Stecko President and Member of the Board
GREENWICH, Conn.--Nov. 16, 1998--Tenneco today announced that its Board of Directors has elected Chief Operating Officer Paul T. Stecko president of the corporation and a member of the Board.Stecko was named COO of Tenneco in January of 1997.
"We are pleased that Paul has become company president and a member of the board," said Tenneco Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dana G. Mead. "As COO he has strengthened the positions of our Automotive and Packaging businesses as leaders in their respective industries, and he will continue to focus on producing strong operating results. Now as company president and a board member, he will be even more involved in helping make the key strategic decisions necessary for us to achieve maximum shareholder value."
Stecko, 54, first joined Tenneco in December 1993 as president and CEO of its packaging business after 16 years at International Paper. Under his leadership, Tenneco Packaging has more than doubled in size from $2 billion to $4.5 billion in sales and has become an industry leader in specialty packaging.
Prior to joining Tenneco, Stecko held a series of general management positions at International Paper, culminating as vice president and general manager of the company's Publication Papers, Bristols and Converting Papers businesses. From 1967 through 1977, he held a series of managerial positions of increasing responsibility at the Bettis Atomic Power Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He began his career at E.I. DuPont as a materials engineer.
Stecko received a bachelor's degree in metallurgy from The Pennsylvania State University, and both a master's degree in metallurgical engineering and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of State Farm Insurance Companies. He, his wife Risa, and their three children reside in Lake Forest, Ill.
