German-Headquartered Robert Bosch Will Host 1999 SAE International Congress & Exposition
    WARRENDALE Pa., Nov. 13 -- For the first time in the history
of the SAE International Congress & Exposition, an automotive company
headquartered outside the United States will host the annual event scheduled
for Cobo Center in Detroit, March 1-4, 1999.
     Robert Bosch Corporation, a leading supplier of electrical and electronic
components for the automotive industry, will sponsor the world's leading
educational and technical forum for the automotive engineering community, the
1999 SAE International Congress & Exposition.  Robert Bosch Corporation is the
wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH, headquartered in Stuttgart,
Germany.
    Exhibit space for the event is already sold out and the exposition has a
waiting list of more than 50 companies.  More than 48,000 automotive
engineers, auto industry executives and others are expected to attend and more
than 1,100 companies will offer hands-on information and demonstrations of new
products and services for the automotive industry.
    The theme of the Congress '99 is "Value for Our World: The Innovation
Challenge," and General Chairman is Robert S. Oswald, Chairman, President, and
Chief Executive Officer of Robert Bosch Corporation.
    Oswald has been in his present position with Robert Bosch since 1996.  He
has been with Bosch since 1989.  Prior to coming to Bosch, Oswald worked at
Cummins Engine Company, Ford Motor Company, and the Rochester Products
Division of General Motors Corporation.  Oswald has been a member of SAE since
1983.  He has earned an MBA from Michigan State University.
    At Congress, automotive engineers from around the world will be presenting
their latest research findings in more than 1,100 technical papers during the
four-day sessions that will cover such subject matter as automotive body
design, powerplants, materials, material engineering, safety, environmental
and many other subjects.
    New topics for this year include: fuel cell power for transportation;
heavy duty coolants & cooling systems; information and knowledge management
for better decisions; discovering the ways and means to emerging technologies;
light truck & van powerplant & drivetrain technology; future powerplants; and
human factors.
    Three mini-conferences are also featured within this year's Congress which
include: an Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference, (ITS/IVI); an
Accelerated Testing Conference; and the Service Technicians Society (STS)
Program.
