Rolf Zimmerman Elected Ford Vice President and Chairman of Ford Werke AG; Donaldson Remains President of Ford of Europe to Focus on GrowthDEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 13 -- Rolf Zimmerman has been elected a vice president of Ford Motor Company and chairman of Ford Werke AG, Ford chairman and chief executive officer Alex Trotman announced today. Zimmerman succeeds Jim Donaldson who remains a Ford vice president and president of Ford of Europe. "This move will allow Jim Donaldson to spend more time on the overall growth of our core European business and on our expansion into new and emerging markets, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Turkey," said Trotman. Zimmerman also will continue as head of Ford's manufacturing operations in Europe. Biographical information to follow: JAMES D. DONALDSON, president, Ford of Europe. Born Feb. 12, 1943, in Paisley, Scotland. Received master of arts degree in economics, politics and psychology from Glasgow University. Joined Ford of Britain as a graduate trainee in 1964 and subsequently held product planning, sales and marketing positions with Ford of Europe. Was appointed vice president - car product planning for Ford of Europe in 1976. Moved to U.S. in 1977 as product strategy director for Ford's International Automotive Operations. Later held executive director positions with Ford Powertrain and Chassis Operations, Car Product Development and North American Marketing. In 1988, he became chief operating officer of Autolatina Limitada, the holding company for Ford's joint venture with Volkswagen in Brazil and Argentina. Moved to Ford Truck Operations as assistant general manager in November 1991. Elected a company vice president and named general manager - Ford Truck Operations July 13, 1992. Became vice president - Large Front-Wheel-Drive Vehicle Center, Ford Automotive Operations, on May 1, 1994. Appointed vice president - Truck Vehicle Center, Ford Automotive Operations in November, 1996. Assumed present position Jan. 1, 1998. ROLF ZIMMERMAN, chairman, Ford Werke AG. Born Jan. 31, 1947, in Russelsheim, Germany. Received degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical College at Wiesbaden. Also attended the GMI Institute in Flint, Michigan, and the Harvard Business School. Joined Ford in August 1997, after a brief stint with the Volkswagen Group, including position with Skoda. Also spent several years with General Motors' Opel subsidiary. Was named Vice President - Manufacturing, Ford of Europe in January 1998, with responsibility for all of Ford's engine, transmission, vehicle body and assembly plants in Europe, plus their manufacturing support functions. In that position, he also oversees a number of facilities in North and South America, and in the Asia-Pacific area. Elected a Ford corporate vice president, and to his present position, on Nov. 12, 1998.
