Textron Appoints Wilson to Lead Fastener Group's European Operations
PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Nov. 12, 1998--Textron Inc. today announced it has named Peter G. Wilson president of Textron Fastening Systems (TFS) Europe, effective January 1, 1999. Based in England, Wilson will oversee 23 operations across Europe with over 5,500 employees and revenues exceeding $700 million.
Wilson, 53, recently led Textron's $450 million worldwide Turf Care and Specialty Products group, a Textron unit that was created following the January 1998 acquisition of UK-based Ransomes plc and its integration with US-based turf care machinery manufacturer Jacobsen Textron. Under Wilson, Ransomes' and Jacobsen's resources and facilities were combined to better serve professional turf care and industrial utility vehicle customers worldwide. Textron's Carl Burtner has been named CEO of an expanded Textron Golf, Turf Care and Specialty Products group that now includes golf car maker E-Z-GO Textron.
"With his strong leadership ability and excellent track record in managing global operations, Peter will be an asset to our rapidly expanding European fastener business," said Industrial Products Segment President Frank J. Feraco.
In his new role as president of TFS Europe, Wilson will oversee Textron's fastening systems operations in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. These operations include familiar fastener company names such as UK-based Avdel Textron, France-based Textron Industries S.A. (formerly Valois Industries) and TFS-Germany, comprised of Boesner, Sukosim, and Peiner.
Wilson joined Textron earlier this year as worldwide President of Textron Turf Care and Specialty Products following Textron's acquisition of UK-based Ransomes. He came to Ransomes in 1993 as its Group Chief Executive, overseeing eight manufacturing facilities employing 1,400 people. Between 1984 and 1992, Wilson held various management posts within the offshore construction and automotive sectors of BTR and from 1992 to 1993, was managing director of Northumbrian Environmental management. At the beginning of his career from 1968 to 1978, Wilson held key sales positions with British Steel and Robert Jenkins Ltd.
Wilson, a UK native, attended London University. He is married with two children.
