Johnson Controls Strengthens Access Control Capabilities; Signs Agreement to Purchase Cardkey From CustomTracks
    MILWAUKEE, Nov. 10 -- Johnson Controls, Inc.
announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Cardkey
Systems, the leading provider of electronic access control and integrated
security management systems worldwide.
    Wholly owned by Dallas-based CustomTracks Corporation ,
Cardkey manufactures stand-alone electronic access controls as well as
PEGASYS(R) integrated security management systems.
    "We're extremely pleased to bring Cardkey's capabilities and expertise to
our customer," says Brian Stark, president of the Controls business for
Johnson Controls. "Cardkey's global market leadership as well as its highly
respected products and services portfolio are an excellent fit with Johnson
Controls and our building controls systems and services. Cardkey creates
immediate value for us and our customers worldwide."
    Cardkey employs 350 persons worldwide and has headquarters in Simi Valley,
Calif.  The closing is subject to government approvals and each company's
board of directors' approval, according to officials from Johnson Controls and
CustomTracks.
    CustomTracks Corporation plans to become a provider of music-related
Internet products and services.
    Johnson Controls, Inc. is a global market leader in automotive systems and
facility management and control. In the automotive market, it is a major
supplier of seating and interior systems, and batteries.  For nonresidential
facilities, Johnson Controls provides building control systems and services,
energy management and integrated facility management. Johnson Controls,
founded in 1885, has headquarters in Milwaukee, Wis. Its sales for 1998
totaled $12.6 billion.
