Dana Rolling Chassis System Named Finalist for 1999 Pace Awards

    TOLEDO, Ohio, Nov. 10 -- Dana Corporation
announced today that it has been selected as a finalist for the 1999
Automotive News PACE(TM) Award for its innovative Rolling Chassis(TM)
vehicular module system.
    The Rolling Chassis system is the most complex module ever supplied to an
original equipment manufacturer for a light-duty vehicle application.  It
incorporates more than 200 components from 66 suppliers and includes the
frame, front and rear axles, driveshaft, suspension, steering system, brakes,
fuel tank, electrical circuits, wheels, and tires.
    The module system is used by Chrysler Corporation in Campo Largo, Brazil,
for the Dodge Dakota pickup truck and accounts for some 25 percent of the
finished vehicle.  Along with providing many of the components in the system,
Dana provides overall program management, including worldwide logistics,
engineering change management, warranty administration, and Tier II scheduling
and development.  This has reduced Chrysler's plant investment, inventory
investment, number of suppliers to manage, and time to market.

finalist for this prestigious award," said Mike Laisure, vice president of
Dana's Modules & Systems Group.  "In the last four years, the PACE awards have
recognized Dana divisions six times for their individual components or
manufacturing processes.  This time, the committee has acknowledged a
combination of excellent componentry and innovative process management."
    Dana's Spicer Driveshaft Division and former transmission division are
previous recipients of the award, which was first presented in 1995.
Additionally, Dana's Parish Light Vehicle Structures Division was twice
honored as a finalist, the Spicer Heavy Axle and Brake Division was named a
finalist in 1996, and Dana's Plumley Division was honored as a finalist in
1998.
    Co-sponsored by Automotive News and Ernst & Young LLP, the PACE (Premier
Automotive suppliers' Contributions to Excellence) Awards recognize automotive
suppliers of all sizes for innovative product, manufacturing, and service
achievements.  Winners of the 1999 award will be announced Feb. 28 at an
awards ceremony at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich.

activity, which involves 10 facilities in seven nations.  This activity
includes current projects with major original equipment manufacturers such as
