Infiniti and Motor Trend Magazine Gear Up for High-Octane PartnershipNational Co-Promotion Touts Infiniti's IRL Participation, Motor Trend's 50th Anniversary and CBR Cobb Racing Sponsorship CARSON, Calif., Nov. 9 -- Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A., has announced an integrated marketing partnership with Motor Trend magazine to jointly promote the automaker's involvement with the Indy Racing League (IRL) and the publication's 50th anniversary. The centerpiece of the Infiniti/Motor Trend partnership is a 50-stop nationwide promotional tour showcasing Infiniti's performance technology. The tour also will celebrate Motor Trend's 50 years as one of the country's leading auto enthusiast publications. In addition, Motor Trend will be an associate sponsor of the CBR Cobb Racing team, powered by the Infiniti Indy engine. "Partnering with Motor Trend represents a win-win opportunity for everyone involved," said Steve Kight, director of marketing for Infiniti. "Motor Trend can help Infiniti showcase its powerful and reliable engines, and Infiniti can help Motor Trend celebrate its illustrious history and our relationship with CBR Cobb Racing -- all while promoting the exciting IRL series." "We are thrilled that Infiniti is helping us power Motor Trend's 50th Anniversary celebration -- both under the hood of the CBR Cobb Racing team and via the cross-country promotional tour," said Doug Hamlin, publisher of Motor Trend. In 1999, the event tour will be on display at 11 IRL events (including the Indy 500), numerous Infiniti retail locations and other special events via a 53-foot semitrailer specially designed to promote Infiniti Indy, Motor Trend's 50th Anniversary, the IRL and the CBR Cobb Racing team. The trailer will carry special Infiniti vehicles such as an Infiniti Indy race car, potential concept vehicles, archival displays from Motor Trend's 50 years of continuous publication and other performance and technology displays. Other elements of the partnership include advertising insertions in Motor Trend, direct mail marketing pieces and consumer sweepstakes programs featuring Indy 500 trips or vehicle giveaways. Since 1996, Infiniti has been one of two authorized manufacturers of engines for all race cars used in IRL races, including the prestigious Indianapolis 500. The program, designated as the "Infiniti Indy" since its inaugural race at the Walt Disney World 200 in January 1997, has shown consistent improvement and competitiveness. Most recently, Infiniti Indy captured a fourth place finish at the Texas Motor Speedway this past September. Infiniti is supported by a network of 150 retailers.
