ALLDATA Announces Digital Versatile Disc OptionELK GROVE, Calif., Nov. 3 -- ALLDATA(R) Corporation, the market leader in publishing Electronic Automotive Diagnostic and Repair Information, has announced the addition of the Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) to the product line beginning February 1999 as an alternative option to the popular CD-ROM disc. The ALLDATA automotive information database will be available on DVD and will include the entire archive of diagnostic and repair articles, technical service bulletins, technical illustrations and wiring diagrams on five (5) DVDs. Currently, ALLDATA customers are able to access millions of pages of electronic automotive diagnostic and repair information on 35 individual CD discs. With the new DVD option, each DVD disc can store up to 12 times the information of one compact disc. "By providing our customers the DVD option, we've reduced the number of discs they'll need from 35 to only five," said Rick Lantz, Vice President of Marketing for ALLDATA. "Not only is there less storage space required because you're using only five discs, but PC's equipped with DVD-ROM drives can also be used to read other existing CDs the customer may have." In addition to saving on storage space, DVD provides easier access to information. For example, instead of being on 10 General Motors CD discs, all of the General Motors information will be located on one DVD disc. As a result, the DVD option will save technicians time and will increase productivity.
