American Honda Maintains Record-Breaking Sales Pace
TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 3 -- Combined Honda and Acura October
car and truck sales of 91,196 were up 9.5 percent, marking the best October in
the company's history, according to sales figures released today by American
Honda Motor Co., Inc.
"During this mid-term election year, each of our divisions has several
strong contenders," said Dick Colliver, American Honda executive vice
president. "The all-new Acura TL is a winner by a landslide in the luxury
segment, while the Honda Civic and CR-V are ready for another term as the
best-selling compact car and compact SUV in the U.S."
Year-to-date combined total sales of 852,260 for Honda and Acura Division
are running 7.7 percent ahead of year ago levels.
Honda Division also posted its best October ever with sales of 79,743, an
increase of 3.6 percent from the previous year. Posting new records for the
month of October were the CR-V sport utility vehicle and the Civic. Total
truck sales, led by the popular CR-V, also set a new October record with sales
of 13,114 up 49.3 percent.
Bolstered by the success of the all-new, 1999 TL, Acura Division sales
totaled 11,453, up 80.4 percent over last year. Sales of the Acura TL
skyrocketed to 5,010, up 331.2 percent from last year, and set a new all-time
record for the second month in a row.
