Autoliv to Expand Operations in North America
AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--Nov. 3, 1998--Autoliv Inc. (SSE:ALIV), a worldwide leader in vehicular safety systems, has completed negotiations to expand its manufacturing operations in North America. A new plant, approximately 100,000 square feet (9,300 square meters) in size, is being planned for a location near Tilbury, Ontario, Canada. The operation will initially employ nearly 100 people, with future expansion likely to double that number. Building construction is currently underway.The plant will produce a variety of safety restraint systems, with particular emphasis on textile related processes. This will include the first North American installation of Autoliv's patented one-piece woven technology.
The new location will bring Autoliv's North American manufacturing facilities total to 11, with one plant located in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada; one in Lerma, Mexico; two in Indiana and six in Utah. The new Tilbury plant is expected to add $10 million in sales when completed.
Autoliv Inc. develops and manufactures automotive safety systems for all major automotive manufacturers in the world. The company has 60 wholly owned subsidiaries and joint ventures with close to 20,000 employees in 27 vehicle-producing countries. In addition, the company has eight technical centers around the world, including 19 test tracks, more than any other automotive safety supplier. Sales in 1997 totaled US $3.3 billion and net income US $185 million.
