Oshkosh Truck Awarded $1.9 Million FMTV Second Source Contract
OSHKOSH, WIS.--Nov. 2, 1998 - Oshkosh Truck Corporation (NASDAQ-OTRKB) today announced that the U.S. Government has selected the Company as one of two contractors to compete for qualification as a second source for the production of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles ("FMTV"). This contract award is valued at $1.9 million and is for three vehicles. The vehicles must be delivered 270 days after a contract award to a government designated test site for a 6,000 mile per vehicle test. A second source will allow the U.S. Army to modernize its fleet at a faster rate and realize lower operation and support costs than with the current medium fleet.Oshkosh Truck has disassembled and reassembled two vehicles in preparation for this second source qualification contract. The FMTV program is one of the U.S. Army's largest acquisition programs at a projected cost of $15.7 billion over the period 1991-2022. The U.S. Army plans to purchase 85,488 FMTV trucks to replace its aging fleet during this period. The program consists of a family of 2.5 ton and 5 ton trucks based on a common cab and chassis.
