Corvette Museum Announces Military Appreciation Month
BOWLING GREEN, Ky., Oct. 30 -- The National Corvette Museum
has designated the entire month of November Military Appreciation Month.
In recognition of the contributions made by U.S. military members, the museum
will offer $1 admission to all military personnel. This special price is
offered to all Veterans, as well as active, retired and reserve members of all
branches of the military and their immediate family members.
Executive Director of the museum, Wendell Strode, said the Corvette is one
of the most recognized American icons. "This car is a symbol of freedom and
American pride, and we want to say 'thank you' to the military personnel who
protect that freedom." Strode, himself a veteran, said that November is the
natural time for Military Appreciation Month in conjunction with Veterans Day
on the 11th. To aid in planning visits to Bowling Green, the museum has
established a web site at http://www.corvettemuseum.com and a toll-free number
at 1-800-53-VETTE.
Those who take advantage of the November promotion will see special
exhibits, including the newly introduced 1999 Corvette hardtop. There is also
a special exhibit of "Hollywood Corvettes." Visitors can see the car driven
by Sylvester Stallone in his first film, Death Race 2000, and the 1958
Corvette currently owned by country star Ricky Van Shelton. The 1967 Corvette
driven by Ted Danson on the television show Cheers is also on display.
In addition to the nearly 60 cars exhibited at the National Corvette
Museum, there is a 3,000-square-foot retail facility called The Corvette
Store. They carry a full line of Chevrolet apparel, collectibles and gift
items. New holiday merchandise will be featured throughout November, and
military personnel will receive a 10% discount on all items.
The National Corvette Museum suggests combining the museum tour with a
tour of the world's only Corvette Assembly Plant. Visitors can see
step-by-step production of the sports car during free tours given Monday
through Friday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. CST. For more information on the Corvette
Assembly Plant, call (502) 745-8419.
Military Appreciation Month will take place November 1-30, 1998. Both the
National Corvette Museum and the Corvette Assembly Plant are located in
Bowling Green, Kentucky on Interstate 65 at Exit 28. The National Corvette
Museum is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information,
please call 1-800-53-VETTE or (502) 781-7973.
