SDRC Receives I-DEAS Order in Excess of $2 Million from Minster Machine Company

CINCINNATI--Oct. 30, 1998--SDRC today announced that The Minster Machine Company, Minster, Ohio, has placed a new order totaling in excess of $2 million for I-DEAS(TM) software and related value-added services. Minster is a privately owned, world-class machine tool builder with plants in Minster, Ohio and Beaufort, South Carolina.
"Minster realized that maintaining its CADAM mainframe system was getting more and more cost prohibitive," said Don Leake, V.P. of Operations. "Additionally, we have a geographically distributed product development team between our two plant locations. SDRC's proven capabilities in the migration of CADAM data, their customer orientation, and their ability to provide a total integrated solution that links our development teams were all key elements in our decision to select SDRC as our partner of choice over other solutions we evaluated."
"SDRC has been very successful in migrating CADAM customers to I-DEAS," said David Weisberg, publisher, Engineering Automation Report. "They have taken a two-prong approach whereby customers first migrate CADAM data to I-DEAS and continue using existing 2D drafting processes with I-DEAS. After a comfort level is achieved, the customers then move on to solids modeling using I-DEAS. This minimizes the disruption to the existing design process, allowing companies to move from 2D to 3D without sacrificing an overall loss in productivity."
SDRC's I-DEAS software will be implemented by Minster as the design through manufacturing standard at its two plant locations, with the majority of the deployment planned for its Ohio site. Selection of a single integrated solutions provider is an integral part of Minster's overall plans for total process reengineering, and a driving force in the company's selection of SDRC.
"Minster is a very reputable company in the industrial machinery industry, with a 100+ year history," said Bill Weyand, SDRC Chairman, President, and CEO. "A decision for them to pursue a change of this magnitude would not have been taken lightly, and we are very pleased that they have chosen SDRC as their preferred software standard."
SDRC is a leading international supplier of Mechanical Design Automation and Testing software, Product Data Management software, and related services. The Company's products and services help manufacturers optimize product concepts early in the design process, enabling them to significantly improve product quality while reducing product development time and cost. SDRC employs more than 2,200 people and has 64 offices in 16 countries throughout North America, Europe, and the Asia/Pacific region.
