Louis S. DiPasqua Named Vice Chairman

Louis S. DiPasqua Named Vice Chairman; Lawrence C. Day Elected President and Director


    MEMPHIS, Tenn.--Oct. 29, 1998--The Board of Directors of TBC Corporation today announced that Louis S. DiPasqua, age 64, will assume the newly established position of Vice Chairman and will continue to serve as the Company's Chief Executive Officer. The Board elected Lawrence C. Day, age 48, to assume the additional responsibilities as President while retaining the position of Chief Operating Officer. Day, who previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, was also elected a Director.
    In a separate action, Robert E. Carroll, Jr., who has served as a director of TBC since 1970, was elected Director Emeritus. Day's election to the Board therefore leaves the number of active directors at nine.
    DiPasqua joined TBC in 1991 as President and Chief Operating Officer. He was also elected a Director that year. From 1989 until joining the Company, DiPasqua was Vice President, Replacement Tire Sales and Marketing for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Prior to that, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Kelly Springfield Tire Company, a division of Goodyear. From 1984 to 1988, he was Chairman and Managing Director of Goodyear Great Britain.
    Day joined TBC earlier this year from Monro Muffler Brake, Inc. where he had served as President and Chief Executive Officer since 1995. Prior to joining Monro, Day was Vice President of Montgomery Ward's Auto Express Division, a chain of over 300 automotive service stores. His experience in the tire industry includes 13 years in a series of managerial positions with the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company.
