Volvo and Analogy Announce Technology Partnership For Wire Harness Design
BEAVERTON, Ore., Oct. 26 -- Analogy today announced a
technology partnership with Volvo for the development of a commercially
available, state-of-the-art suite of tools for automotive wire harness design
that aims to meet the current and planned future needs of automotive designers
worldwide.
The development reflects the changing nature of wire harness design
-- the move away from purely mechanical layout with the increasing need to
include extremely complex electronic sub-systems and the requirement for
better integration with all the other aspects of the automotive design and
manufacturing process. According to Analogy and Volvo, this change demands a
new generation of wire harness design tools.
"The challenge is to meet the demands of the worldwide automotive industry
as it embraces the concept of complex, mechatronic-oriented wire harness
design," says Andrew Patterson, Analogy's European Technical Director.
"Critical to this is our ability to facilitate a right-first-time design
methodology prior to prototyping, the incorporation of innovative
functionality for a world market and tight couplings to industry-standard
databases and mechanical tools such as CATIA(R) and Pro/ENGINEER(TM)."
Analogy and Volvo will use the technology partnership to focus on the
creation of an innovative wire harness design solution that not only has a
well-defined product development roadmap but will also be well-proven and
tested on real-world harness designs prior to its commercial availability.
In this respect, the technology partnership formalises an existing 12
month old relationship between the two companies under which Volvo contracted
Analogy to specify, design and develop its new wire harness design solution to
replace its existing in-house developed tools. Based on Analogy's Saber
mixed-signal and mixed-technology design simulation and analysis tools, an
initial wire harness design solution has already been shipped to Volvo for use
on its next generation car and truck harness designs.
Says Mikael Diedrichs, Volvo Car Corporation, Manager IT/Technical
Systems: "We already enjoy a very close development relationship with Analogy.
The wire harness solution they have developed for us closely fits our design
and manufacturing requirements. We look forward to continuing our co-
operation in a technology partnership that will lead to the development of a
new generation of commercially available wire harness development tools."
Analogy, Inc. is a world leader in the development of high-performance
